En cherchant quelques acceptions du néologisme « métatechnologie », nous avons été frappés de voir que sa réalisation pouvait être considérée, tel l’avènement du « tout-numérique » comme celui d’un processus totalitaire. Lewis Munford (Mumford, trad. 1973, p. 2) a-t-il délibérément pris cette position comme « contre-utopie » ou, à l’instar de 1984 d’Orwell, en réaction aux attentes utopistes déçues en 1948 ? L’année de référence constitue un indice conjoncturel : 1967, un an avant la mémorable année 1968. Par conséquent, dans une situation qui s'éloigne de plus en plus de la linéarité, il apparaît que les Sciences et Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication (S.T.I.C)1, peuvent être considérées en tant que perfectionnements instrumentaux dans la mesure où leur technicité s'appuie conjointement sur une connaissance ascendante des sciences humaines. Au seuil critique qu'elles ont atteint, elles restructurent non seulement le champ des technologies, mais l'ensemble des nos faits et gestes individuels et collectifs, à tous les niveaux et dans tous les domaines. Un des principaux objectifs de notre recherche est d’appréhender lucidement en quoi les technologies contribuent à libérer l’être humain mais, aussi, pour partir à le conditionner et à l’asservir. Aussi notre projet homme-métatechnologies-machine s’intitule significativement « HandiTech ».

By seeking some meanings of the neologism “metatechnology”, we were struck to see that its realization could to be considered, the such advent of “all-digital” like that of a totalitarian process. Did Lewis Munford (Mumford, transl. 1973, p. 2) deliberately give this opinion like “against-Utopia” or, following the example of 1984 of Orwell, in reaction to waiting’s utopians disappointed in 1948? The year under review constitutes an index of the economic situation: 1967, one year before the memorable year 1968. Consequently, in a situation which moves away more and more from the linearity, it appears that Science Information and Communication Technologies (S.I.T.C), can be considered as instrumental improvements insofar as their technicality is based jointly on an ascending knowledge of the social sciences. With the threshold criticizes that they reached, they restructure not only the field of the technologies, but the whole of our individual and collective actions, on all the levels and in all fields. One of the principal objectives of our research is to lucidly apprehend in what technologies contribute to release the human being but, also, to leave to condition it and to control it. Also our man-metatechnology-machine project is entitled significantly “HandiTech”.
