Dans le champ de la psychanalyse, le concept de sublimation pose problème. Notre recherche se sert de l’architecture afin de saisir la formule lacanienne la plus élaborée de ce concept : la sublimation « élève un objet à la dignité de la Chose ». La question que cette définition pose est celle de la possibilité d’un rapprochement symbolique du réel au moyen de l’imaginaire. Die Sublimierung reste, pour S. Freud, une énigme. J. Lacan la transforme en paradoxe. Notre étude examine et rend compte de ce paradoxe. L’hypothèse de départ est qu’il existe deux temps logiques de la sublimation : un temps zéro, que nous rapportons à la création ex-nihilo du Vide, et le temps un, l’élévation d’un objet à la dignité de la Chose, que nous rapportons à l’illusion de l’espace. Tout en passant par l’apologue du vase, les ready-mades de Duchamp, la poésie de l’amour courtois, les anamorphoses, l’Annonciation italienne, le dessin de l’Arche d’Hugues de Saint-Victor, les images miraculeuses, l’architecture d’Eupalinos, l’architecture théorisée aussi bien par Vitruve que par les architectes de la Renaissance italienne et l’architecture gothique, notre étude aspire à contribuer au champ de l’art appliqué à la psychanalyse. Le texte est divisé en quatre parties dont les deux premières portent sur l’aspect proprement théorique des trois éléments de la formule lacanienne de la sublimation, l’élévation, un objet, la Chose, et les deux dernières sur les arts que nous lui appliquons, la peinture et l’architecture. Nous tentons de démontrer que cette dernière nous aide à dégager et à problématiser la logique de la sublimation : l’ART-chitecture frôle le réel de la Chose tout en nous mettant en rapport avec notre propre vide en tant que sujets du désir.

In the field of psychoanalysis, the concept of sublimation acts as a problem. In this thesis, we use architecture to comprehend J. Lacan’s most elaborate definition: sublimation « elevates an objet to the dignity of the Thing ». This definition raises the question of the possibility of a relationship between the real and the symbolic through the imaginary. Die Sublimierung is, for S. Freud, an enigma; J. Lacan changes this into a paradox. In our study, we examine and develop this paradox. The main hypothesis is that there are two logical times of sublimation: the “time zero”, which we link to the creation ex-nihilo of the Void, and the “time one”, which is the elevation of an objet to the dignity of the Thing, that we then link to the illusion of space. Our research strives to contribute to the field of art as applied to psychoanalysis in the following ways: the apologue of the vase, the ready-mades of Duchamp, the poetry of courtly love, the anamorphoses, the Italien Annonciation, the drawing of the « Ark » of Hugues de Saint-Victor, miraculous images, Eupalino’s architecture, the Vitruvian theory of architecture and the architects of the Renaissance and gothic architecture. This thesis is divided into four parts, of which the first two ones concentrate on the theoretical aspect of the three elements of the Lacanian formula of sublimation, and of which the last two ones concentrate on the arts applied to this formula: painting and architecture. We attempt to prove that the latter helps us to extract and analyse the logic of sublimation: ART-chitecture meets the real of the Thing and at the same time it make us have a relationship with our own Void as subjects of desire.
